Texas Tribal Buffalo Project Donates Meat to the People of La Junta
TTBP donates bison meat to Indigenous People of La Junta.
The Texas Tribal Buffalo Project, a Lipan Apache-led organization to reintroduce Indigenous people to their ancestral food source is dedicated to revitalizing the cultural heritage and ecological significance of the buffalo within indigenous communities of Texas. TTBP offers a reliable and sustainable source of bison meat, adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety. The bison meat is rich in protein, lean, and free from artificial additives or hormones.
The Indigenous people of La Junta de los Rios (Presidio, Texas, and Redford, Texas) participated in this project.
The descendants, including Concho, Lipan Apache, Jumano, Raramuri, Comanche, and other groups in Redford and Presidio were the recipients of 150lbs of ground meat, 50 briskets, and 40 ribeye steaks of buffalo meat. The City of Presidio Convention and Visitor Bureau hosted a Multi-Cultural Festival where some of these meats were distributed to local indigenous community members. Another event in which meat was handed out was the “El Polvo” reunion in Redford Texas. They were honored by this significant blessing of ancestral food. Acquiring this meat, that their ancestors fought so hard to survive, made the reunion even more memorable. Helping with the distribution of this amazing gift was Arian Velazquez-Ornelas, City of Presidio Mayor Pro-temp and The People of La Junta for Preservation board member.
